Who Told You That? (And Why It Matters More Than You Think)
The most powerful lies we end up believing don’t usually get shouted at us. They get whispered.
You’re too much. You should be further along by now. This is just how you are. Don’t rock the boat. God uses people like that, but not you.
Here’s what I’ve learned about lies: they always have a source. Always.
The Question That Changes Everything
So the real question isn’t just “what am I believing?” The question is “who told me that in the first place?”
This question shows up really early in the Bible. When Adam and Eve are hiding in the garden, God doesn’t lead with condemnation. He asks a question first.
“Who told you that you were naked?” (Genesis 3:11)
He’s basically asking: Who shaped this belief you have? Who named this thing about you? Who convinced you to see yourself this way?
How Identity Flows From Voice
God knew something that we forget all the time. Our identity always flows from whatever voice we’re listening to.
When the wrong voices get loud enough, we start living from labels that God never gave us in the first place. We make ourselves smaller. We perform. We settle for less. We strive constantly.
Not because we don’t love God. We do. But we’ve gotten His voice confused with everybody else’s voices.
The good news? Truth doesn’t have to shout to be powerful. It just needs some space.
Learning to Recognize God’s Voice
Jesus said His sheep know His voice. Discernment isn’t really about volume. It’s about familiarity.
Learning to recognize God’s voice doesn’t start with doing more stuff. It starts with unlearning the things that never came from Him in the first place.
The freedom that so many of us keep praying for doesn’t come from our circumstances changing. It comes from changing which source we’re actually listening to.
Why Identity Work Is Kingdom Work
This is why working on your identity is actually Kingdom work. Freedom always starts with truth.
This whole theme runs deep through Intentionally Designed. You can’t live aligned with God’s design if you’re still living from lies you never stopped to question.
Maybe you’ve wondered why certain patterns keep showing up. Why you feel stuck even though you’re being faithful. Why stepping into your calling feels way harder than it should.
This might be exactly where God wants to start with you.
Overcoming Lies and Spiritual Growth Through Scripture
Overcoming lies and spiritual growth really do go together. When you start recognizing the false stories that have been shaping how you think, you make room for God’s truth to actually take root. This is what makes resources like Christian devotional books so valuable. They help you spot the whispers that aren’t from God and replace them with His voice instead.
If you’re ready to gently and biblically untangle the lies and get back to who God says you are, Intentionally Designed is available here. This is a real tool for overcoming lies and spiritual growth, one of those Christian devotional books that actually changes how you see yourself and your calling.
You don’t need a new identity. You just need to come back to the one you were given.
